Bee Blocks & a Quilt

After the trip to Seattle, the guilt overcame me & I got caught up on my bee blocks thru August.
For PTQB, Katie sent vintage sheets, a solid, and the Amy Butler rose buds, requesting blocks similar to Oh Frannson!’s Mod Sample Quiltalong.

Also PTQB, Jody requested Drunk Love blocks to be made into a quilt for [...]

Backing Up…

My bro came out to visit for a week & left on Saturday, July 24th.  On my way back from dropping him @ the airport, I parked the car and headed to the Long Beach quilt show.  What really struck me this year was the lack of exhibit quilts – wasn’t nearly the same number [...]

In a Bind…

Like all good procrastinators, I waited until the last minute (or last few days) to torture myself with hand-sewing the binding on my latest quilt.
I actually received my quilt back from Margaret a couple of weeks ago, but let other things get in the way (like watching Glee).

Here’s a detail of her quilting – I [...]

Tuesday Funny

While I know not all of you will share Megan’s sense of humor, I think all you quilters will appreciate her quilting glossary… I know it made me laugh!

An Oldie but a Goodie

As part of the move, some of our less sturdy plastic storage bins didn’t survive without cracks.  Including my box of memorabilia, most of it from high school.  So I bought a sturdier but smaller Rubbermaid box, and set out to see what I could purge and what I couldn’t part with.
This is most definitely [...]

Turning Twelve

I’m sure all you quilters have seen some of the Turning Twenty quilts made from the books by Tricia Cribbs.  Basically, they seem to be simple patterns using fat quarters (20 of them, in fact).  Well, I’m too lazy to order the original book from anywhere other than Amazon, and it’s all out of stock there.
So I [...]

I Should Be Working…

…but I couldn’t stop myself from coming up with some measurements…
So with a jelly roll (40 fabrics) and some charms/yardage, you could come up with a 56″ x 68″ quilt made of 30 of the big blocks set 5 across by 6 rows, like so:

So 30 big blocks would use 26″ of a jelly roll strip, [...]

For Rachael…

The unfinished (cutting) measurements on Flutterby, along with arrows showing which direction I pressed my seams (since I don’t do open).
click JPG 2x to make really big

So each big block finishes @ 8″, the settings @ 4″ x 8″ – build your quilt from there!

Need Quilty Help?

Need help pulling together Christmas quilts?  Too busy (like me) to quilt them yourselves?  Go ask Margaret for some help.  I’ve already sent in my request to reserve some of her time, I have a couple I would like to actually gift instead of giving an IOU.
PS – Margaret is absolutely wonderful, she has donated [...]

Margaret’s Hope Chest

Remember this?  If you don’t, the short story is that I tried quilting it on my home machine with a thrifted sheet for the backing, and disaster ensued.  The quilt remained in a box until I pulled it out to use as practice for quilting on the long-arm in August.  And then I didn’t have [...]
