Steve & Michelle are working on creating a den for Kit.
Previously, Michelle was using the baby room as her crafting space:
All of Michelle’s stuff has been relocated to the guest bedroom.
So what about decor?
Well, gender-neutral is the name of the game, since we wanted Kit’s gender to be a surprise! Yellow/gray (aka “grellow”) is the color scheme we’re planning. This means we won’t have to change the wall paint!
Michelle is definitely opinionated about decor, and Steve is pretty easy-going with what Michelle dictates.
Some of Michelle’s likes/dislikes:
~LIKES natural fibers (ie, cotton)
~DISLIKES cutesy nursery themes (ie, no ducks/bears/bunnies) – we’re assuming we’ll be spending a fair bit of time in the room, so we want to make sure we like what we’re looking at (and Kit really won’t care for a few years)
~DISLIKES unnecessary items (seriously, who uses a diaper stacker??) – this is key since the space is small!
~LIKES making handmade items (that is, if she can get past the early pregnancy sleepies!)
~LIKES fox items (such as this little storage bin)
This fabric stack was the starting point for the grellow nursery:

Some changes we made to the room include installing wood blinds, installing a new low-profile ceiling fan, remodeling the teeny tiny closet, and most importantly, installing a smoke/CO2 detector!
Without further ado, here is a tour of Kit’s den as of August 2012 (you can click on each photo to see it bigger):

view from the door

clothes corner (dresser still needs drawer fronts, Steve is going to make in woodworking this fall)

crib, mobile, wall decor, blankets

another shot of the wall decor – I used undiluted starch to adhere fabric to the walls (it peels right off, leaves no mess)

quilt I made – granny square blanket from Grandma Liz – quilt from my friend Ronit (I also made the crib skirt)

shelf of Foxes & family photo gallery (still need to fix Steve’s photo on the right)

I LOVE that yellow and grey bird fabric…I have seen it on etsy and was actually considering making some pillow covers in that fabric! great minds think alike…and I think Kit will like it too!
